Sports and Religion
Today, the 2008 Modern Summer Olympics opens. The ISCL remembers when one year was Olympic year, but that's for another time. The Britannica Blog has a good article on The Olympic Games in China (not sure how this will post for you if you aren't subscribed.)
I thought I would look at material related to the ties between the Games and Religion, in this case mainly Christianity and just give you some I found on WorldCat as we do not own any of these. Recent books which cover both topics include
If Christ Came to the Olympics, by William Baker
The Christian Olympics, Going for the Gold Crown by S.E. Gregg
Go for Gold: Olympic Stories of Courage and Inspiration, by Elliot Johnson. This was published in 1998 and I didn't research whether or not it was still in print.
There are broader issues covered in other books. One of the most recent Game Day for the Glory of God: A Guide for Athletes, Fans, and Wannabes, by Stephen Altrogge. Again, I was surprised by the lack of ownership by MPOW, given that we have sports programs.
As you can see, this is not my metier and I would be interested in any resources you have used to explore this topic.
