Library as Sacred Place
The latest issues of American Libraries has an article by Nancy Kalikow Maxwell called Sacred Stacks taken from her book by the same name. I know everyone is busy with finals, but this is worth reading and perhaps discussing at ACL along with an article posted in our discussion list from the Australian Library Journal. These two articles should be read at the same time as they present similar, although not identical, views of the library as a place with a higher purpose than just a coffee shop.
So instead of calling ourselves this maybe we should call ourselves as this? -- Just kidding-- a little. Read the articles, get the book. "I has spoken!"
