Second Hand Days
This post is in honor of the day after a significant day such as the Solstice or equinox day. I suppose it is comparable to "The Sun Also Rises" mentality. Just because I keep missing an important event, doesn't mean I can't inject some thoughts a little later!
I sent a message to the ACL discussion list asking for any books mentioned during the many and varied conversations. We talked tech, theory, and we talked about books we had read or heard about. I was in library heaven! Here's a start for those of you who missed the conference and anyone else for that matter. Although I can't attend the ALA Conference, I hope books and love of them is a frequent "overheard" snatch, and thus the reason for my title as these are not new books.
As I constructed this list, I tried out the WorldCat Find in a Library link in Google. Why should we promote a bookseller before promoting a library? The only problem is that these are regional; however, think about encouraging your patrons to use this service. Is anyone using it for promotion or instruction? Since, the URL's from this service are l-0-0-0-0-n-g, I tried out a new short URL site DigBig. TinyURL should work as well, but I enjoyed using digbig.
*Traveling Mercies, Plan B, and Operating Instructions by Anne Lamott
*Dakota and Quotidian Mysteries by Kathleen Norris
*Telling Secrets and The Sacred Journey, by Frederick Buechner--in connection with writing spiritual memoirs
*Memories of God, by Roberta C. Bondi
*Poetry by Nancy Mairs (No one title was mentioned, but this link gives several to peruse.)
*Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller
*Faith of my Fathers by Chris Seay
*Listening for God by Renita J. Weems
*Mudhouse Sabbath and Real Sex by Lauren Winner (one of our conference speakers)
Here it is--a little link rich--but a start. Keep those books coming and have a great summer reading.

I am enjoying your posts. And learning new stuff (Professional term there!), too.
I am an ACL member but didn't get to go this year. So I appreciate the information you have listed.
Did you get in on the "Girl meets God" discussions? What did you think of the book? I didn't read it but a staff member did, so we have talked about it some.
I have just started a blog - it is www.warriorlibrarian.blogspot.com . I am still learning protocol and 'how to'.
Welcome to blogging. Glad you're enjoying the information.
